Your career background:
I have been dancing since I was the age of 7 and never looked back. I started teaching dance when I was 15. I was 16 when I took my official exam with the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) to become a street dance teacher. It was something I had always dreamed of doing. I did performing arts at college and then carried on in the dance industry when I went to University to complete my degree in Dance.
I have now been working with Pro Sport Coaching for over a year and it’s been so much fun! I feel like I am constantly developing and learning, taking on new challenges like teaching Yoga in schools and doing online videos.
Why did you want to go into sports coaching?
For me going into coaching was my way of passing on my love for dance and performance to those who may not have the access to lessons outside of schools. Watching children’s faces lighten when they realise how dance can link with the topics that they are doing in class. Passing on that fun and enjoyment is what I enjoy the most.
What are your interests outside of work?
Other than dancing (when we’re allowed to!), I like to be nice and cosy watching a series on Netflix. I have also started getting into the gym and find it quite relaxing, haha!
At the moment I like getting out and about on nice walks and exploring places near my home. I have also started to focus on what makes me happy, so I have started a bullet journal. They’re so much fun and allow you to be creative too.
What are you passionate about?
I bet you’ve already guessed it… Dance!
But in the last year I started teaching yoga in schools and this has made me realise how important looking after our minds is, so I am also passionate about what we should be doing in order to look after our minds. Whether that is going for a walk, reading a chapter of a book, some yoga or just doing something you enjoy.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
That no day is the same. Each time i’m in a school it is never going to be the same as the previous visit. I suppose to put it in a quote, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get” – Forrest Gump (Haven’t actually watched the film, but it’s on my list!)
