arrowGetting to know Brianne – Head of QA, Programme & Staff Development

Your career background:

From my first day in Reception, I knew I wanted to become a teacher, and everything I did at school from that day on was leading to achieving that goal. I was an Early Years teacher and PE coordinator for 4 years, before moving into delivering PE full time as Head of PE in a large, urban primary school. I decided to move on from teaching in 2019 after almost 10 years in the profession.

Why did you want to go into sports coaching?

I moved from teaching to working with sports coaching and education companies because I wanted to have more of an impact across multiple schools. I like building relationships with coaches, headteachers and PE leads to see how we can help improve and build upon PE, school sport and physical activity provision in each setting.

What are your interests outside of work?

I love being active, be that running, lifting weights or going for walks. I find working hard physically makes me feel relaxed. Some people like having a bath to relax, I like burpees and lunges! I also like cooking, gardening and going to the theatre. I also run a national weekly tweetchat around all things PE.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about children receiving high quality PE in schools in order to instill a lifelong love of being active. It is easy to forget that the children we teach will become adults, and it is absolutely vital that we ensure we equip them with all the necessary tools in order to live healthy, fulfilling lives.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

I really enjoy working alongside the delivery team to help them become the best coaches they can be. I believe everyone can learn from everyone, so even when I am guiding and assisting them, I learn a lot too. I also love it when I get the chance to deliver in schools. Children are so receptive to new ideas and to trying new things, and when you see a child achieve something or acquire a new skill, it’s a great feeling.
